Karez is a water conservancy system in arid areas of Xinjiang, where wells are connected by underground channels.

The system collects a large amount of rain and snow meltwater that seeps into the ground during the spring and summer, and draws it to the ground through the natural slope of the mountain to irrigate farmland and meet people's daily water needs.
